Uniform, Footwear, Hair & Jewellery
We have worked hard to ensure our uniform costs are kept to a minimum for parents. The only items which we insist have the Mossgate logo are school sweaters/cardigans and navy PE tops which can be purchased from either Young Ones or Uniform & Leisure - the rest of our uniform can be purchased from local supermarkets. Please note that parents consent to our uniform policy though our Home School Agreement and we appreciate your support in following our policy.
Uniform
· Mossgate embroidered navy sweater or cardigan with logo - required
· Generic light blue polo shirt - required (available with the Mossgate logo but not compulsory)
· Generic grey trousers with grey socks - required
· Generic grey skirts or pinafore dresses with grey knee length socks / tights – required
· Mossgate embroidered book bag – required (we do not have space for rucksacks)
Optional changes for the summer:
· Light blue and white gingham checked dresses with white socks
· Grey shorts with grey socks
Footwear
Black shoes and plain black leather trainers are required with no visible logos, detail or coloured soles. All footwear should be suitable for physical activity during playtimes. If children are not wearing the correct footwear with their uniform, they will be asked to change into school pumps.Children should only wear laced footwear if they can tie them independently. We strongly recommend that children in Little Saplings Nursery, Reception, Y1 & Y2, and those who cannot tie laces, buy Velcro shoes / trainers.
PE Kit
· Mossgate embroidered sports top - required
· Navy shorts - required
· Trainers (do not have to be black for PE) – required
· Plain navy-blue tracksuit (please avoid hoods) will be needed when it is cold as children wear their PE kit to school on their PE days instead of their usual uniform - required
Sometimes, girls in the juniors customise their PE kits with branded leggings, shorts and socks. All children must follow our uniform policy which includes our PE kit listed above. If children are not wearing the correct kit, they will be asked to change into kit provided by school.
In Year 5, children walk to the local pool for their weekly swimming lesson. On swimming days, children should wear their PE kit to school, instead of their usual uniform, and a warm, waterproof coat and hat in the winter. Trunks or shorts are required for boys and a one-piece costume for girls. Kit needs to be contained in a suitable, small bag. Goggles should only be worn if essential.
Lost Property and Naming All Items
Please ensure all items are clearly labelled so we can return them to the correct child when lost. Any items without names will be placed in the lost property cupboard in the disabled toilet in the foyer. To order from My Name Tags please use the School ID: 30073 and from Tiger Tags our School ID: 6667. Remember, the best way to avoid lost clothing, shoes, bags and bottles is to name everything and to encourage your child to take responsibility for their belongings.
Hair, Make-Up & Jewellery
No make-up, nail varnish, false nails, jewellery or fashion statements (large hair bows etc) are allowed. Long hair should be tied back away from your child’s face. Hair should not have designs and lines shaved into it or be dyed. Children will be asked to remove make-up, jewellery and inappropriate hair accessories.
If your child has pierced ears, studs must be worn for school. Earrings must be taken out for PE or left out on PE days. Please make sure your child learns, as soon as possible, to remove their own earrings. If you wish to have your child’s ears pierced, the ideal time for this is at the beginning of the long summer holidays, so that they have time to heal and the earrings can be taken out for PE on your child’s return to school in September.
Support with uniform
If you are struggling with the financial costs of uniform, PE kit and footwear, support is available. You can self-refer to the Uniform Project or ask to speak to the headteacher or member of staff in confidence.
