Starting School - September 2026
Do you have a little one starting in Reception in September?
Starting school is a big and exciting step for children and families. Helping your child develop some simple everyday skills over the coming months can really boost their confidence, independence and happiness when they begin school in September.
Things like putting on their coat, using the toilet independently, listening to instructions and talking about their feelings all make a huge difference in those early weeks.

Little steps now can make a big difference later!
Our recently opened (Sept 2025) school-based Nursery here at Mossgate Primary School has an indoor classroom that has been designed to create a calming and nurturing environment for our "Little Saplings" to grow and learn.
Our Little Saplings Nursery benefits from a sheltered outdoor area dedicated to sensory and small world play.
We also have a dedicated eating area for snack times and lunchtimes.
Our "Little Saplings" enjoy playing and exploring in their indoor and outdoor classrooms. We share our outdoor area with Reception children and enjoy learning from them and the skilful adults that care for us and support us in our learning throughout each day.
Our entire Nursery curriculum has been carefully planned so that whilst our children can play and follow their own interests, they also have an abundance of opportunities to learn vital knowledge & skills appropriate to their age & stage of development, but also that lay the foundations for all future learning in the Reception Curriculum & beyond.
The intended impact of our curriculum is that all children can be supported to make outstanding progress from their starting points, to be ready for starting school and the Reception curriculum which in turn will enable them to achieve the Early Learning Goals and a Good Level of Development, whilst also preparing them for the future curriculum requirements in Key Stage One & beyond.
