Mossgate is a community primary school.  We deliver RE in line with the Locally Agreed Syllabus, Lancashire and Blackpool Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education.  We use the Discovery RE programme as a tool for our teaching.  By following Discovery RE at Mossgate Primary School we intend that Religious Education will adopt an enquiry-based approach as recommended by Ofsted, beginning with the children’s own life experience before moving into learning about and from religion.

In Religious Education, we aim to contribute to a child’s personal, moral, cultural and spiritual development. It provides them with the opportunity to explore religion as a living experience through studying the practices, values and beliefs of our prominent world religions. By gaining knowledge and understanding of different faiths, children will develop respect and tolerance for the cultures and beliefs of others.

Children and staff take part in an act of collective worship daily.  Whole school assemblies take place on two days of the week. On the other three days class or key stage assemblies are held.   Assemblies contribute to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the children.

Parents/carers have the right to withdraw their child from RE and the daily act of worship. Anyone wishing to exercise this right should consult the Headteacher.
