Your child has a choice of either a healthy hot meal or a packed lunch brought from home. You may, of course, prefer your child to go home to eat with you.
We do provide the facility for children to stay for school lunch for part of the week and bring a packed lunch for part of the week. A school packed lunch option is also available in school during the summer months. Full details of these facilities are available from the school office.
If you wish your child to have school dinners, you can pay yourself at the school office or send the money with your child on Monday mornings. If your child is bringing the money please send the correct amount due in an envelope with your child’s name and the amount you are sending clearly written on the front.
School meals cost £2.20 per day, £11.00 for the week. Cheques should be made payable to Lancashire County Council or LCC.
Ad hoc dinners can be ordered from the school office on a day to day basis and the deadline for ordering is 9am. Ad hoc dinners should be paid for at the point of ordering but if your child needs a school dinner and you have a problem paying at the time of ordering, please speak to the office staff.
Dinner menus run on a three week rotating cycle and a copy of these or the current weekly menu can be obtained from the school office. Children choose their meals from the menu to ensure they have something they like.
If you think your child may be entitled to free school meals, please contact the school office or the Education Office at White Cross (01524 581112 or 581268) as it is necessary to apply for these.
We are able to provide free school meals as soon as authorisation has been received but any school dinners taken in between your child starting with us and school receiving this authorisation, unfortunately, will have to be paid for.
In KS1 if your child receives free school meals then they are also entitled to free school milk.
If your child prefers food from home, please put it in a clearly named box. A small sealed container of fruit juice, cordial or water are ideal for your child’s drink. In our efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle, sweets, crisps, chocolate bars and fizzy drinks are not allowed in school and parents/carers are asked not to include these in a packed lunch.
Please let the headteacher know if your child has any special dietary requirements e.g. due to a medical problem, so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Finally, if you wish to change your child’s meal arrangements, please let the school office know as soon as you can.
