Home Learning

What is Homework?

At Mossgate we view homework as being supported or independent tasks which are undertaken outside of curriculum time and which re-inforce, extend or enrich current learning.  Homework always links with what we are learning in school and you can use the Curriculum Letter that is sent home at the beginning of every half term to see what your child is learning.  Different homework is set for different year groups and you will find the details for your child’s year group in the homework help booklet.

What is Home Learning?

Home learning is work you can do with your child to help them consolidate their learning. This is additional to homework and is optional. Home learning is done at home, is not collected and marked, but will contribute to your child’s progress and will help them with their learning in school.

Why is it set?

The purpose of homework is:

  • To provide opportunities for parents to be involved in children’s learning
  • To enable children to practise and consolidate skills.
  • To enable children to take responsibility for their own learning, become more independent and develop perseverance.
  • To enable the learning in school to be added to and enriched by learning at home.
